About Our Inclusive Swim Classes

Our Inclusive Swim Classes at West Limerick Sports Complex are designed specifically for children aged 7 years and older with physical, developmental, sensory, or learning disabilities. These classes follow the Halliwick Programme, a trusted, evidence-based approach that helps children build confidence, independence, and joy in the water at their own pace.

Parents will be in the water with their child, creating a comforting, supportive learning environment that strengthens both water skills and parent-child connection.

Classes are calm, structured, and highly individualized. Perfect for children who benefit from clear routines, gentle guidance, and positive, ability-focused coaching.

Chloe.jpeg

Chloe is a calm, patient, and supportive swim teacher with a strong background as a former competitive swimmer. She creates a safe, reassuring environment where every child feels respected and understood in the water.

Alongside teaching, she is studying nursing with the goal of becoming a Paediatric Occupational Therapist — giving her a deep understanding of sensory needs, motor development, and inclusive support for children with disabilities.

Chloe uses a gentle, ability-led approach that aligns perfectly with the Halliwick Programme. She focuses on helping each swimmer grow confidence, independence, and joy in the water at their own pace.

She’s passionate about creating positive, empowering experiences for every child and looks forward to supporting your family in the pool.

What Is the Halliwick Programme?

The Halliwick 10-Point Programme teaches water confidence, balance, and movement skills through a structured, playful method.

  • Mental adjustment: Helping children feel safe, supported, and relaxed in the water.

  • Balance & rotational control: Using fun games and gentle movements to develop body awareness and independence.

  • Gliding & buoyancy skills: Teaching how to stay afloat, adjust to water movement, and trust the water’s support.

  • Simple swimming movements: Once a child is fully water-happy, we gradually introduce basic propulsion and stroke preparation.

The method is completely child-led, ability-based, and joyful. Perfect for children with physical disabilities, autism, sensory needs, or anxiety around water.

Age Group

Children 7+, with any disability or additional need.

Small Group Learning

Each session includes:

  • 1 instructor

  • Approx. 3 children

  • Parents in the water with each child

This provides the perfect balance of safety, personalised support, and social interaction.

Sundays - Starting January/February

Classes will run weekly on Sundays. Exact start date & times will be confirmed soon.

Parent involvement

Parents or guardians participate in the water with the child, a core part of the Halliwick approach. This helps children feel secure and supported as they learn new skills.
